about

Note 1 - Traach is my eleventh project in a row and fully dedicated to the memory of my brother Jan who in our childhood apparently ( and unintentionally ) exposed my latent desire for SOUND overall and specifically for the sound of AM/tube radios - how very quickly and highly unexpected did he pass away springtime 2022.

Note 2 - Traach is Frisian for "slowly".

Note 3 - Traach is standing on the shoulders of giants > Brian Eno, Harold Budd, William Basinski, Robert Fripp, and many more. If all goes well ( only Time will tell ) there will be 3 full albums. Next album due '23/'24.

Note 4 - About the album cover : a black hole falling into a black hole falling into a black hole falling into a black hole, until eternity.

Note 5 - Headphones with a solid bass highly recommended.

The ( slowly ) passing of Time, the inevitable arrow of Time, Time coming to a complete standstill - these things have always fascinated me. So it's not that weird imagining myself in a free falling spaceship, surrounded by AM/tube radios, hovering just a few million miles above the event horizon of a black hole, reading, writing, and waiting for the things to come - how about that .

I spent my childhood as a free boy on a farm way outside a small village. Amazingly so my 3 year older brother Jan quickly showed a talent for electricity ( and stuff ). As it also turned out to be The Golden Age of pirate radiostations ( AM radio - Radio Caroline, Radio London, Radio Veronica, Radio Northsea ) he almost automatically turned his attention to...AM/tube radios... In no time the farm was wired and covered... And of course let us not forget the transistorradio... This fantastic device... Which suited me so well ( he always made sure there was one around for me ).

Already when I was 8 years old I carried it with me like it was a smartphone covering the most valuable information ever - and it did. The quality of AM radio was influenced by so many things, I only mention thunder and lightning. And I quickly got addicted... to the Static, the Noise, the Fuzz, and the Buzz...

And so I was there when pirate radiostations while drifting on The North Sea launched The Animals' The House Of The Rising Sun, I was there when they launched Dylan's Like A Rolling Stone, I was there when they launched The Velvet Underground's 'banana' album, I was there when they launched The Stones' Satisfaction ( I Can't Get No ), I was there when they launched The Beatles' Revolver album, I was there when they launched The Who's My Generation, I was there when they launched Procol Harum's A Whiter Shade Of Pale, I was there when...

But most of all I got addicted to the Static, the Noise, the Fuzz, the Buzz, the wear and tear of vinyl... It was only a matter of time for this addiction to return - so here we are : the mind-boggling perfection of the digital era reaching out to a now close to mythical past, only to shake hands and say: has actually anything changed at all?

Traach is therefore dedicated to the man who in those early years turned my attention to music and above all SOUND. Traach is literally covered in the sound of AM/tube radios, uncovering their secrets so very, very SLOW ( Traach ).
